What Are Quartzite Countertops?

Do not confuse quartzite with quartz. Quartz is engineered in a factory. Quartzite is quarried natural stone, a metamorphic rock that started as sandstone and was transformed by heat and pressure over a very long time.

The result is one of the hardest countertop stones available, often with flowing veins and light backgrounds. Like granite, every slab is unique and it should be sealed. Because it is so hard, it takes more time and care to fabricate, which is why choosing an experienced fabricator matters.

Why Homeowners Choose Quartzite

  • Natural stone with marble-like veining
  • Very hard and scratch resistant
  • Handles heat well
  • Every slab is one of a kind
  • Makes a statement on islands and waterfall edges

Best for: Homeowners who love the look of marble but want a tougher natural stone.

Caring for Quartzite Countertops

  • Clean with mild soap and water
  • Seal at install and on the schedule we give you
  • Wipe up acidic spills like lemon and vinegar promptly
  • Use trivets to protect the finish

Edges, Sinks and Cutouts

Common edge profiles include eased, beveled, bullnose and ogee. We cut undermount, top-mount and apron-front sink openings, faucet holes and cooktop cutouts to your fixtures, and we plan seams with you during the measure.

What Affects the Price of Quartzite Countertops

Every job is priced after we measure, because no two kitchens are the same. These are the things that move the number:

  • Total square footage and number of pieces
  • The slab you choose (some colors cost more than others)
  • Edge profile
  • Sink, faucet and cooktop cutouts
  • Tear-out and haul-away of old countertops
  • Backsplash pieces and full-height backsplash

You get one written price before we cut anything.

Questions

Quartzite Countertop FAQs

Is quartzite the same as quartz?

No. Quartzite is quarried natural stone. Quartz is engineered from crushed quartz and resin.

Does quartzite need sealing?

Yes. It is natural stone, so we seal it at install and recommend resealing over time.

Why do quartzite slabs vary so much?

Each slab comes from a different part of the quarry, so color and veining change from slab to slab. Seeing the actual slab is the best way to choose.

Is quartzite good for an island?

Yes. Its veining and hardness make it a popular pick for islands and waterfall ends.
